I always speak about how technology, more specifically Social Media has made a huge impact on all of our lives. One of the things that have changed substantially is our way of obtaining information. At one time we tuned in to the local news, turned on the radio or read a newspaper. Those avenues of media, although still available, in some form or another are not our primary source of information.
The influx of technology and social media has changed how we get our information. Some people still tune in to the news, radio and even read the paper. However the younger generations are more apt to go online to Google the information that is required. To take that one step further, people gain much more information from areas even beyond Google, and these avenues are Social Media, YouTube and Blogs.
Bloggers have become a great source of information and this information does NOT have a non-partial spin on it. We are hearing opinions, dialogue and news directly from people like ourselves. This is what I believe to be the motivation for people going the social medial route for news more that utilizing some more traditional forms of media.
A prime example of how things have changed is the Tsunami of Charlie Sheen Videos, Podcasts, Blog Postings, Tweets and Facebook Pages. Charlie Sheen is no longer the source of the story but he is living the story. Charlie Sheen has flipped the script on the people that are reporting about him and is now telling-all, live and ongoing.
Fifteen years ago, Charlie Sheen would have been news for a while, his story would have been spouting by an impartial reporter and or tabloid reporter he would have then quietly gone away so that people forget about whatever issue he was having. NOW, Charlie Sheen has become fodder for all social media dialogue. More importantly he is using it to his advantage and has literally become more famous than he was before.
The Charlie Sheen “Winner” rants, “Rock Star” rants and others are prime examples of the power of the people behind social media.
Social Media ROCKS and its effect on people is WINNING!
