It's WAR: Google -Vs- Facebook for Local $ Related to Check in services

Google is getting into the Check in WAR!  It seems that everyone is going to war with Facebook even Google. The Check in service Places which was just introduced by Facebook, is striking fear into many.  Even Big cheese Google is feeling a bit threatened by the overwhelming popularity of Facebook.

It seems that Google would love for check in services like Foursquare to access it's vast database of local information and with Facebook emerging as a player in this check in game Google is feeling a bit threatened and is turning up the heat of competition... check out the story in the first segment of video..

  1. Thanks for the video, it's definitely causing a long-awaited stir now that Facebook has thrown its hat into the 'check-in' ring.

Google has massive advantages in the maps & directories sense, as it must be the go to app and search facility for most people looking for local businesses in the US (and my native UK). Facebook, however, obviously has a massive registered user base with lots of personal data attached, meaning that FB can 'push' recommendations to these folks as they check in...perhaps there's enough space for both of them, especially with a $40bn industry being quoted there. Then you have the existing operators like Foursquare in and around that, who will presumably take up niches or link up with one of the big boys.

It's an exciting time for sure and some great questions raised. Wonder if it will end up as all out 'WAR!' or friendly competition? We'll see!

    Cheers,

  2. Hey Steve!
I am very excited to see the outcome of the check in wars. Google has an amazing jump because they are so huge and they have really been pushing people to move to using the Local service. I believe it's because they were moving toward this.

On the other hand Facebook has a following of 500 million which is huge. I've also notice in my personal network, that those that were utilizing Foursquare have now started using FB Places. Another thing to keep in mind is that Foursquare has only a user base of 3 million and that's Google's target.

It is most definitely going to be and exciting thing to see how it unfolds!

    Great comments Steve!
