Social Media Influence: Klout or Empire Avenue

Picture_11

Let's face it Social Media had become THE way to communicate these days. It doesn't matter if you are an 11 year old shooting the breeze, Senior keeping track of your grand kids or a company trying to increase brand exposure. Social Media has become the way to interact with your current friends, catch up with past friends keep track of family in far away places and to network.

This avenue of communication has grown so much that there is an entire industry of jobs that have to be created to fulfill the growing need for Social Media Interaction. With the creation of jobs there are now metrics of influence that have to be explored when hiring someone to manage your brand, especially for corporations.  There is a growing debate about how corporations interested in hiring would go about measuring a potential employee or social media consultants influence.

There is the Klout score which is the industry standard, it measures Influence, True Reach, Amplification just to name a few metrics. Klout score displays metrics based on interactions on Twitter and Facebook

There is also Empire Avenue , which allows you to purchase stock in other companies, people and friends that you know. The individual or companies stock price fluctuates based on activity within your Social Media channels. What I really like about Empire Avenue is that your influence is directly connected to your social media activity, if you slack you pay the price because your shares will go down. However if you are doing well your stock prices will go up, the dividends that you provide to the purchasers of your stock will increase and people will purchase more. The most important part of this is that with Empire Avenue your social media influence is determined by more than just your Facebook page and Twitter page. The influence is determined by a variety of channels plus your blogs. Those Social Media Channels are YouTube, Facebook Profile, Facebook Page, Twitter, Flickr and now LinkedIn. In addition, my influence also comes from my Tumblr, QR code Blog and Posterous. To me, this gives a better overall score of your influence over many Social Media Channels, which is needed when hiring a social media expert to promote a brand.

Empire Avenue may not be know to many but I say if you want to really know a person and or companies Social Media Influence check out them out as they manuver through the world of social media and see what's reflected in their Empire Avenue Scores.

Overall, I'd say Empire Avenue is the winner in the battle of influence determination. Agree? Disagree? I welcome any opinions, good, bad, ugly or indifferent so feel free to leave a comment or post directly on my Facebook Wall.

Autotune your FB Friends Bday greeting

Amplify’d from www.allfacebook.com

StarMaker Interactive has just launched a new app called Auto-Tune Birthday, which lets you sing and record “Happy Birthday” on your phone, edit the recording and post it to your friend’s Facebook wall.

One cool thing about Auto-Tune Birthday is that it uses the original Auto-Tune voice processor from Antares. This means you get to use the real deal to correct your off-pitch vocal “performance.”

Google deploys People Finder for Japan

Google deploys People Finder to help Japanese quake victims

The tool is an easy registry creator to help victims and loved ones communicate during emergencies.

Natural disasters such as the EarthQuake/Tsunami in Japan last night disrupt traditional channels of communication.  When homes are destroyed, cell communications towers toppled, and people taken to emergency rooms or worse, there is very little in the way of a full organized registry of people who may be missing.

For this, Google (GOOG) deploys its People Finder tool.  People Finder is a simple tool to allow people affected by the quake and those who are trying to communicate with them to register their status.  It is built with open standards so other registries can plug into it.

It was recently deployed for the victims of the Christchurch, New Zealand Quake last month which kept a registry of 11,500 people.  Haiti too.

Google Ideas is a think/do tank that studies where technology can help solve the world's problems.  This is a good example of such an endeavor.

Data & Moving beyond web: #SemanticWeb

I was just speaking of how quickly the web has grown and how much information is available to learn and absorb. This compelled me to think about The Semantic Web yet again and how close we are, to actually realizing the world of creating a place that we can all utilize the amounts of information that's available in a uniform way.

Right now there is an abundance of information floating in cyberspace, so to speak. There's data bases, blogs, websites, wikis and the list goes on. There is so much data that the world is becoming inundated with information in all of its many forms.

The Emergence of the Semantic Web is a move in the direction of making this information & data uniform and accessible to all in an easy to utilize way.

I found a great Video that explains quite a bit about the evolution of the web and the future.

The Internet is constantly growing and changing however we tend not to notice, as the changes are mostly gradual.  However as you reflect on the subtle changes that have happened since the popularity of the web that emerged in the 90's, you will realized that there have been significant changes since that time.
As one of the early adopters of the web and all that it had to offer in the 90's I have recently REALLY noticed the changes of late.  Early web, or Web 1.0 consisted of people really becoming comfortable with finding information and data online. Websites lack sophisticated graphics, were very word intense and very informational.  The emergence of Web 2.0 assumed that we have advanced beyond basic comforts of finding the information and pushed us into interaction with that data. Web 2.0 is considered the Social Media Age and we are swiftly coming to the peak of that phase.  Moving forward quickly into Web 3.0, or the Semantic Web, pushes us directly into the age of immersing ourselves in the Data. It is said that the web will become a place that allows data to interact with other data with the purpose of creating an easier and more personalize web experience. As a technologically forward thinking person AKA as a self admited nerd, I look forward to seeing and interacting with the Semantic Web.
I would love your feedback; post your thoughts in the comments section or on my Facebook Page.
A parting thought:

  • Web 1.0 introduced us to the Data
  • Web 2.0 Help us engage with the Data
  • Web 3.0 Data engages with more Data
