Beware of #Facebook Chat hijack

Amplify’d from www.allfacebook.com

We’re seeing lots of people warning about — or at least apologizing for – chat hijackings.

The latest one says “Hey, check out this girl, lol, she must be out of her mind for making that video!” and includes a shortened bit.ly web address.

That URL leads to a Facebook page running an application called Congood. Clicking “allow” on the permission box leads to a page that flashes a picture of a woman’s back side for less than a second before popping up a menu of three different affiliate schemes.

Clicking on any of the three choices exposes you to malware and leads you down a path that earns the scammer a commission if you go through the whole exercise. Instead of wasting time playing the game, filling out a marketing survey or trying out customized profile layouts, close the window and go clean up your Facebook page — get rid of the application installed in your account, and delete any references to it in your news feed.

And the next time you feel tempted to check out a link you’re unsure about, try running it through the AVG scanner first, like our friends at Facecrooks suggest. Report all dubious-looking applications to Facebook security.

MS Office to Integrate with #Facebook

Amplify’d from www.allfacebook.com

Microsoft wants the next version of its Office productivity suite to include Facebook integration.

The integration could simply include messaging or chat, like ZDNet suggests in its headline about Office 15. However, that might be only one of several interfaces. Microsoft Front Page, and possibly Word, could have an option to upload pages to Facebook; Outlook could synchronize with Facebook’s new messages platform; and, of course, Microsoft Messenger could tap into Facebook chat.

Autotune your FB Friends Bday greeting

Amplify’d from www.allfacebook.com

StarMaker Interactive has just launched a new app called Auto-Tune Birthday, which lets you sing and record “Happy Birthday” on your phone, edit the recording and post it to your friend’s Facebook wall.

One cool thing about Auto-Tune Birthday is that it uses the original Auto-Tune voice processor from Antares. This means you get to use the real deal to correct your off-pitch vocal “performance.”

Bing Steps it up with FB & #SocialSearch

Social Media is playing and increasingly important role in the daily lives of so many people. At 500 + Millions users Facebook alone is a huge player in the game. This effect has trickled down into search and SEO, re-defining what is and is not relevant with search.

As we use Google and different Social Media channels, what is and is not important has shifted. Search has changed due to Social Media and the changes are bringing forth Social Search and the Team up of Facebook and Bing is playing a HUGE role in pushing this forward.

To read more about Social Search check out some of the resources below:

Social Search, Social Media & SEO
Google losing Ground to Facebook
Social Search is Happening NOW!
Search Engine Optimization vs Social Media Optimization

As usual, I welcome comments, good, bad ugly or indifferent on my Facebook Wallor in the comments section.

Amplify’d from www.webmonkey.com

Microsoft has announced it will expand its effort to bring Facebook into Bing’s search results, displaying new annotations alongside any search result links your Facebook friends have liked. Bing first began integrating Facebook “likes” into its search results back in October 2010, but results from your friends were relegated to the bottom of the page. The new version promotes your friends up into the main search results listing.

Microsoft’s Bing offering is roughly the same thing with one huge difference — Bing includes results from Facebook, Google does not.

That’s a huge blind spot for Google given that Bing now has some 500 million Facebook users to pull social data from. At the same time, Google is pulling data from your Twitter friends, which is something Bing does not, thus far, offer. However, given the relatively open nature of Twitter versus the closed nature of Facebook, it will likely be easier for Bing to add Twitter, than for Google to add Facebook.

The best search engine choice depends, for now, on which social networks you use. Facebook fans will find Bing a better match, while those using a wide variety of services will probably see more results from Google Social Search.

Students take their college virtual tours from Facebook Page with YourCampus360

Amplify’d from www.allfacebook.com

YourCampus360 is a virtual-tour online company focusing on connecting universities with prospective college students, and they have become the first of their kind to integrate their capabilities into schools’ Facebook pages. So far, it seems that a diverse array of institutions have incorporated the feature , including State University of New York at Stony Brook and Syracuse University.

The Facebook app is exceptionally easy to use for a student. Sitting comfortably among the tabs of the school’s page, the “virtual tour” takes the student to what is a essentially a replica of the virtual tours that YourCampus360 offers on the school’s official website. You can then choose to take a walking tour through campus, peek into classrooms, rooms, and other on-campus facilities, and also watch videos of the school.

Facebook Factors into 80% of College Admissions. Clean it up kids!

Colleges and Universities are looking for more than just good grades and great SAT scores. They are looking for a well-rounded student that will be an effective and positive representation of their college or University.

One of the ways that you can represent yourself as such is by using Social Media, which could allow potential Universities and Colleges to see you beyond how you present yourself on a sheet of paper.

Negative Social Media can reflect very poorly and can sometimes eliminate your chance of entering into the college of your choice or even having your admission withdrawn AFTER YOU'VE BEEN ADMITTED. So it is very important to present yourself in a positive manner at all times.

Facebook And Admissions

Prospective college students, beware: There's yet another reason to make sure your Facebook profile is suitable for all. According to a Kaplan survey of college admissions officers, more than 80 percent of college admissions officers consider social media presence when recruiting students.

Although this doesn't necessarily mean that Facebook and other online profiles will be considered in making admissions decisions, All Facebook reports that at least one Harvard admissions officer -- who posted on a Quora thread in response to the question "do high school students' Facebook profiles affect their college applications?" -- said that a student's online presence "absolutely" prejudices her.

But applicants can turn their social media presence into an advantage.

FREE Chipotle food, yes I said FREE!

Amplify’d from mashable.com

NBC today is launching a promotion offering free Chipotle food for anyone who watches a 90-second promo on Facebook for the upcoming show America’s Next Great Restaurant.

The network is using an app on the show’s Facebook Page where, in exchange for watching the promo, visitors get a buy-one, get-one-free coupon at Chipotle. The chain’s founder and CEO, Steve Ells, is one of four investors in the show.

Customers who print out the coupon can get a free Chipotle meal, including a burrito, tacos or a bowl with the purchase of another meal. The promotion ends March 6.

Guilty pleasure American Idol will soon allow voting by way of our other guilty pleasure #Facebook

Amplify’d from mashable.com

You’ll soon be able to use a dedicated page on Facebook to vote for your favorites on American Idol.

Viewers and fans will be allowed to cast their ballots up to 50 times, as long as they vote during that broadcast’s designated voting period, according to Entertainment Weekly.

This new method of voting won’t replace the traditional toll-free telephone call or text message, but for Facebook users, it certainly sounds a lot easier than dealing with the plague of busy signals or spam texts we’ve experienced when using the other two voting methods on American Idol.

Should you give your BOSS Access to your Facebook page? How about making yourself INVISIBLE on FB to your boss?

Ummmm oh yeah... NOT!

Facebook is new in a sense that employers haven't had a chance to adjust and add policy and procedure for handling Social Media; However, I don't believe that people allowing others total access to their Facebook or other social media pages to be the answer.

Some companies have not addressed their policy and procedures for quite a few years and depending on the company some may not have changed things since the introduction of email. So first I think companies should address and add Social Media Policies that make sense (seriously) to the policy and procedures of the company.

While companies are doing that, I think as individuals we have to look at how we interact with social media and be aware of the information that we put online.

Finally...you can can take steps that will put your profile in stealth mode so YOUR BOSS WON'T EVEN BE ABLE TO FIND YOU on Facebook. I'd opt for this option.

Read my eBook posted on SlideShare, it will guide you through customizing your Privacy setting so that you can be in stealth mode among other things.

Should prospective employers be allowed to look through your personal Facebook page prior to hiring or recertifying you? Maryland’s Department of Corrections seems to think so.

Maryland’s DOC has a policy allowing them to obtain Facebook login information from prospective employees and current staff undergoing re-certification; the policy allows the employer to read the entirety of their account, including wall posts and messages from friends and family.

A challenge to this started last January; the American Civil Liberties Union sent a letter to the Maryland’s Public Safety Secretary Gary Maynard, on behalf of corrections officer Robert Collins. During a re-certification interview, he was required to share his Facebook login ID and password, and had to sit there while his supervisor skimmed through his page.

#Facebook SCAM Alert: 3 scams Target people with Valentines Day interest..Beware..

Amplify’d from www.allfacebook.com

What a busy morning for security on Facebook! Several Valentine’s Day scams are spreading, along with a falsely promised video of an Italian schoolteacher striptease. A third spam campaign has been extinguished but provides a lesson about brand hijacking.

The Valentine’s Day scams seem most troublesome because the appeal to one’s dating instincts makes it hard not to click on these applications, at least if you’re single and looking. Try to avoid the temptation because the exercise only wastes your time, spams your friends and exposes you to malware. Ultimately, all of the apps lead to the familiar marketing survey and if you complete one it gives money to the spammer. Just say no!

Another scam that appears to have been halted provides a cautionary tale for all page administrators: A rogue application called itself Van Gogh Museum’s Photos despite having nothing to do with Amsterdam’s venerable art institution. Instead the ?app led to a page labeled “I was logged in to Facebook for XXXX hours in 2010,” a reincarnation of scheme promising to tally how long you’ve spent on the site during the year and of course only leading to yet another boring marketing survey.

The real Van Gogh museum posted an apology on its Facebook page explaining that it had nothing to do with this scam, which was a very shrewd move. The museum’s lesson for other page administrators: regularly search the social network for posts the name of your brand, and look for signs of rogue applications that might be hijacking your name, so to speak.

60 signs that you are ADDICTED to #SocialMedia: Is there an App for that? #JustSaying

http://www.Facebook.com/AniseSmithMarketing

I must fess up before this blog post becomes live. That I am very VERY guilty of most of the things on the list, including looking like woman in the image.

I went to Key West last year, I was at the 1/2 point in obtaining my Masters Degree in Internet Marketing from #Full Sail University and I was traveling with hardcore electronics. Finishing up my graduated degree just allowed me to seriously indulge my addiction.

My friends and travel buddies would agree that I have a serious addiction to social media and technology. However I really don't see a problem with that. :-)

SIDENOTE

I do believe that I was lucky that this was before the groping TSA search or I would have surely been groped by some TSA person for hidden electronics.

Check out these 60 signs to determine if you may be in fact a social media addict.

iStock 000006261739XSmall2 230x300 60 Signs Youre Addicted to Social Media & Twitter

1. You more often than not talk in 140 character increments.
2. You forgot how to spell simple 3 letter words like “you” which you now reference as “U”.

5. You have a favorite seat at Starbucks and Panera bread.
6. You have stayed past closing at least two times at either Panera Bread or Starbucks.
7. You can’t remember the last time you went to the restroom without your Android or iPhone.

9. You are the mayor of Panera Bread, Starbucks, the grocery story, drycleaner and your favorite burger joint.
10. You refuse to do drive by FourSquare as you want to earn your badges the old school way!
11. Your kids know the difference between a twit and a tweet.
12. Your kids could easily describe a retweet, mention, hootsuite, and ping.fm to their friends who have parents who don’t tweet.
13. Your spouse has threatened to divorce you if you don’t leave your cell phone at home at least one date night a month.
14. You have real friends in Australia, the UK, Brazil and at least three other countries. You met them all on Twitter.

18. Your kids come home from school and ask you how many hits their YouTube video received.
19. You take a photo of your kids and the first thing they say is “no, you are not putting this one on Facebook or Twitter, seriously!”
20. Your youngest kid has found a new marketing medium with his/her world of wonder color paintings…. twitter and Twitpic!
21. You have worked an entire day or at least half of a day in your pajamas when you didn’t plan to do such.

23. You want to do a back flip when you interview a potential new client and they already know what bounce rate is.

25. You have mastered tweeting, texting, reading a Inc. magazine and watching CNN all at the same time while on the elliptical.
26. TV, who has time for TV? You have #FFs to catch up on!
27. There are some people who tweet you in the morning that can simply make your day!
28. You have officially stopped doing free lunches. Who has time for lunch anyway!
29. You no longer attend networking meetings as you honestly don’t need any more clients at the present time.
30. When you meet with a client now it’s more like an interview as to if you want to take them on or not.

33. You know what the tweet parade application is.
34. You know your Klout score even if you say you don’t care about the numbers.

41. When anyone in your neighborhood needs anything to do with the internet they call you.
42. You still get emails from past colleagues wondering if you could “help them learn” social media. Although that would be much more fun than a “free lunch” with another broke wanna be client you unfortunately don’t have time.
43. You wish you could spend the majority of your time tweeting for social good. Someday you will.
44. You won’t let your kids come close to Facebook or Twitter as you know how addictive it can be.

46. You get more leads via your online sales funnel than anything you do offline.
47. Your business truly works on the weekend even when you don’t thanks to Infusionsoft and your favorite news syndication site (mine being Social Media Today)!
48. You can tell the mood of the twitter verse from just a few seconds of tweeting.
49. You can retweet that tweet in less than 2 seconds with your eyes closed.
50. You want to hit yourself on the head every time someone tells you “my clients aren’t on social media.”
51. You still love teaching newbies how to tweet. Nothing better than hearing those happy words with a big smile “I sent my first tweet!”
52. You have actually had a client say after the first twitter training session, “now how do I do something to someone, I forgot?”
53. You dressed as a twitter bird, YouTube channel, Facebook page or iPhone for Halloween.
54. Your kids know what Friday Follow is.
55. You have given up trying to get your family to understand what it is you do.
56. You’d rather tweet than be nosey and look at the neighbors photos on Facebook like all the rest of your neighbors do.
57. You ordered a custom license plate with your name and 140 on it.
58. Movies, who has time to see a movie. You’re either with the family, at Church, at the beach or tweeting.
59. You have written a late night social media addiction blog post at midnight and fell asleep in the middle of it (like I did on this one.)
60. You made it to the bottom of this list.

Man Thrown in prison because someone Tagged him in a photo that he wasn't even in.

Amplify’d from www.allfacebook.com
Imagine someone else tagging you in a Facebook photo you don’t even appear in and then getting arrested because of it.  That’s  what  journalist Mamdouh Hamamreh is going through. He was falsely labeled in an image mocking Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas by superimposing his likeness into a picture of a well-known Syrian soap opera villain.
In conversation with the Associated Press, Hamamreh explained that he was detained by police authorities just a few hours after being tagged in said photo. Again, and according to him, he hadn’t taken the picture or uploaded it, and his face wasn’t in it. He didn’t even tag himself. After being held up in a Palestinian lock-up for 50 days, he was released in November and faces trial next month.

Social Nets Revive The Dating Game

adweek/photos/stylus/159830-TDGTheGuysCharacterBuilder-l.jpg

The Dating Game—the classic '60s/'70s-era game show—is mounting yet another comeback. This time, however, it’s not coming to TV, but to Facebook and Twitter.

3G has partnered with Sony Pictures Consumer Products to launch a new version of the game on social nets, including Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, Hi5 and Twitter, sometime over the next few months.

Like in the original show, a single man or woman will question three potential dates. But in this case, players will create avatars of themselves to hide their identities. And rather than being in a TV studio, they’ll ask their questions using their preferred social media platform.

Social Media, The new way to give: Celebration of Giving on this MLK Day of Service

Social Media has taken the world by storm and most people are really enjoying it. I know that I am! The growth of Social Media for fun, entertainment, job search and company brand exposure has been amazing.

One of the things that has been great is how people are using Social Media as a way to give to different organizations and causes. Social Media has given people an easy avenue to find out about different causes, charities and social organizations that are in need of support.

So on this day of celebration I'd like to share some of the causes that Facebook has been involved with. I believe that Martin Luther King would be proud of our positive uses of Social Media to do good!

Let's keep doing good things!

1. Free the Children We Day Campaign

Free_the_children

Free the Children, an organization that helps empower children in North America to improve the lives of children elsewhere, hosts an annual event called We Day. The event brings together youth in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal for a day of motivational speeches and performances. This year, sponsors like The Keg Spirit Foundation, CTV, and Me to We agreed to donate $1 for every “Like” that the We Day Facebook Page received.

The Jonas Brothers, Al Gore, Jason Mraz and Ellen DeGeneres were just a handful of people who helped spread the campaign through their Twitter and Facebook accounts. After about three months, Free the Children is halfway to the $1 million goal that the sponsors agreed to.

2. Tyson Hunger Relief and the Monterey County Food Bank

Tyson

Tyson Hunger Relief, which regularly makes donations to food banks around the country, added a Facebook twist to its food donation to the Monterey County Food Bank this September. For every new “Like” that the food bank’s Facebook Page received, Tyson donated 100 pounds of food.

3. Stand Up to Cancer Telethon Facebook Credits

Stand_up_to_cancer

The Entertainment Industry Foundation’s second national Stand Up To Cancer telethon accepted Facebook credits as donations this year. Facebook users simply visited the SU2C Facebook Page, which hosted a live stream of the pre-show and broadcast event, in order to place their donations. They could then share their donations through wall posts, spreading the word about the charity.

4. Timberland Earthkeepers Virtual Forest App

Forest

Creating virtual forests with Timberland’s Earthkeeper app helps plant real trees. The original version, which launched in 2008, helped plant 1 million total trees in China, Haiti and Nepal. A new version that launched in October teams up with Trees for the Future and the Yéle Haiti Foundation to focus on planting trees in Haiti.

For each set amount of virtual trees planted, Timberland commits to planting a certain amount of real trees. For every five virtual trees planted, for example, Timberland commits to planting one real tree. After a user has planted 25 total virtual trees, another two real trees are planted. Users can plant trees in either their own forests or in their friends’ forests. In the new app’s first month, users’ tree planting has committed Timberland to planting about 3,000 new trees in Haiti.

5. Kohl’s Cares for Kids Facebook Contest

Kohl's

In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its philanthropic program Kohl’s Cares, Kohl’s department stores decided to let Facebook users decide where to spend a donation to education. The company gave away $500,000 to each of the 20 schools that solicited the most votes on the company’s Facebook Page.

Facebook fans could vote up to 20 times, but no more than five times for one school. Voters were also encouraged to leave ideas for what the schools could do with the money, and every school needed at least one idea contribution in order to be eligible for the contest.

Social Commerce will boom in 2011, social networking was just the warm up, this will make it Cha-ching for us

Forecast for 2011: Facebook predicts a social commerce revolution

• What will 2010 be remembered for?
"2010 saw an evolution in the way people consume and share information and content, on mobile and across the web. The web has so far been built on search, so you have to know what you are looking for. But in everyday life, we don't go into conversations with a specific set of questions in mind; our conversations flourish on the information we discover through talking with our friends and that's how we find new areas of interest. The social web is now helping people do the same thing online, creating more personalised experiences based on our real connections.

• What's your hot tip for 2011?
"Social is not just about sharing connections, it's about providing different ways for people to interact and 2011 will see more and more things become social. We've already seen how the gaming industry has been transformed by becoming more social – whatever you think of Farmville, it's been the game of 2010 because of the way it relies on people's connections with their friends.
