Mobio Identity Systems New App

A new report by Mobio Identity Systems Inc., the creators of the Mobio app that allows users to make payments via their phones using QR codes, shows that the use of QR codes has risen by 1,200%. The study highlights QR use in North American during the last six months of 2010. The report uses no third-party data, however, and is derived completely from Mobio’s servers.

The report shows that the majority of QR scans are coming from people between the ages of 35 and 44. It had been estimated that QR’s popularity would be driven by a younger generation, but those aged 18-24 account for only 16% of usage. While the 25-34 age range still makes up a sizable portion, 22%, the report reveals that an older crowd is more readily adopting QR codes.

Gender seems to play a role in how many scans are being made. The report shows that women make up the majority of QR scanners. Of the data Mobio has compiled, 64% of scanners are women. Women have shown more interest on products that are associated with QR codes and have been making more mobile purchases.
